Today, Nodem Organization for Rehabilitation and Human Development for People with Disabilities made a statement to the public on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, which falls today (December 3) of each year.

The statement was read in front of the organization's building in the city of Qamishlo, the statement read:

"On the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we also stand in solidarity with the displaced people of the occupied city of Afrin and Shahba due to the recent attacks that forced them to be displaced again from displacement camps, as these areas and the neighborhoods of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh contain 925 persons with disabilities, including children, who have been suffering from harsh humanitarian conditions for 4 days as a result of forced displacement amid the cold weather conditions in the region.

These people face significant challenges in accessing shelter and basic care, as well as difficulty in moving around and accessing safe places and health facilities.

We appeal to all human rights organizations of the rights of persons with disabilities, and international and local bodies to take immediate action to provide the required humanitarian support at this difficult time, these individuals need urgent assistance in order to secure food, shelter and health care, as well as psychosocial support, and must ensure the protection of their human rights and the provision of conditions suitable for living in dignity, especially in light of this severe and life-threatening cold.

Today, we must remember that the rights of persons with disabilities are not limited to celebrating them in one day, but to rights that continue every day of the year.

We demand urgent action to help those affected and provide them with the necessary protection and humanitarian care, especially in times of crisis."
