Meeting of DEM Party, Nationalist Movement Party concludes 

The meeting between the Equality and Democracy of the Peoples Party (DEM) and the Nationalist Movement Party concluded after 40 minutes. It witnessed a broad dialogue on several issues and discussed developments following the call for peace and the democratic society.

Today, the Equality and Democracy of the Peoples Party met with the Nationalist Movement Party.

The meeting was held between the co-chairs of the Equality and Democracy of the Peoples Party, Tülay Hatimoğulları Oruç and Tuncer Bakirhan, the deputies of the Equality and Democracy of the Peoples Party group, Gulistan Kılıç Koçyiğit and Sezai Temelli, the leader of the Nationalist Movement Party, Devlet Bahçeli, the deputy of the Nationalist Movement Party, Celal Adan, and the vice president, Fethi Yıldız, in the council, and the meeting lasted about 40 minutes.

Following the meeting, the Equality and Democracy of the Peoples Party issued a statement, which said:

“The meeting was held in a constructive atmosphere and witnessed broad dialogue on a number of issues. The developments following the call for peace and the democratic society, the course of democracy in Turkey, the meeting of the Equality and Democracy of the Peoples Party delegation with Mr. Abdullah Ocalan, as well as the decisions announced by the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) at its congress held on May 12, were discussed.

It was emphasized that steps must be taken to advance this course, such as the role of parliament, the new justice package, the formation of a parliamentary committee, discussion of fundamental constitutional issues, and the importance of establishing a full committee according to the constitution within the Turkish parliament, following a previous proposal by Devlet Bahçeli, stressing the necessity of political parties’ participation in this process, due to the importance of the current process.”
