Meeting in Damascus to discuss completing integration under January 29 Agreement

A meeting has been underway in Damascus since this morning, bringing together leaders of the Internal Security Forces in Hasakah province and officials from the Interior Ministry of Syria’s transitional government. The meeting is part of the practical and executive steps to complete the integration process, which SDF General Commander Mazloum Abdi announced had been completed.

The meeting follows the arrival of a military, security and administrative delegation in Damascus, led by Abdi and Ilham Ahmed, co-chair of the Department of Foreign Relations of the Autonomous Administration. The delegation also included Nowroz Ahmed, a member of the General Command of the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ), Deputy Defense Minister for Eastern Region Affairs Samir Oso, as well as security officials.

Abdi and Ilham Ahmed also met yesterday with Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani as part of efforts to follow up on the implementation of the Jan. 29 agreement and move into the new phase announced by Abdi.

According to informed sources, the current meeting is discussing executive arrangements and assigning some leaders duties in different areas of Hasakah province, in line with the process of unifying security operations and institutions within the Syrian state.

Another meeting is also expected to be held between leaders of the YPJ and officials from the Defense Ministry of Syria’s transitional government to discuss the executive arrangements concerning the units as part of the integration process.

The meetings come as practical details of the new phase are being finalized following Abdi’s announcement that the military, security and administrative integration had been completed, marking a transition from the integration phase to implementing the resulting arrangements on the ground.
