Abdi and the accompanying delegation checked on the condition of the injured and inquired about their health, wishing them a speedy recovery.

The visit came after eight inmates died and others were injured when a fire broke out at Kobani Prison, following rallies and protests in several cities over the death of Siban Haskê, a fighter in the Hasakah Brigade.

In Kobani, thousands of people took to the streets. When the General Security Forces attempted to intervene and disperse the protesters, stones were thrown and gunfire was heard in the area. The forces subsequently detained a number of young men and took them to the prison.

Tensions later escalated inside Kobani Prison amid reports that the detainees would be transferred to prisons in Aleppo. This led to unrest inside the prison and fires breaking out in several sections.

The fire resulted in the deaths of eight detainees and injuries to 17 others.
