Mazloum Abdi discusses March 10 agreement; lifting sanctions on Syria with Senior U.S. delegation

Mazloum Abdi, the General Commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), met today with the U.S. Special Envoy to Syria, Tom Brake, and Commander of the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), Admiral Brad Cooper, to discuss the situation in the region and Syria in general. The meeting focused on the implementation of the March 10 Agreement, establishing stability in the region to create a secure environment for investment, and facilitating the return of displaced persons.

This morning, Mazloum Abdi received a high-level delegation from the international coalition led by U.S. Special Envoy Tom Brake and CENTCOM Commander Admiral Brad Cooper.

Also attending the meeting were Ilham Ahmed, Co-Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Autonomous Administration; Rohilat Afrin, Commander of the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ); Ghassan al-Youssef, Co-Deputy Chair of the Syrian Democratic Council; and Abdul Hamid al-Mahbash, Chairman of the Future Syria Party.

Both parties discussed practical steps to accelerate the implementation of the March 10 Agreement, signed between Mazloum Abdi and the head of Syria’s Interim Government, Ahmad al-Sharaa in addition to exploring ways to facilitate the lifting of sanctions imposed on Syria, creating a safe environment for investment and development, and enabling the return of internally displaced persons and refugees to their homes.

The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to continue the partnership between the International Coalition and the Syrian Democratic Forces in combating ISIS militants and enhancing security and stability in North and East Syria, in a manner that preserves Syria’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
