Martyrs’ Families reject Syrian PM’s remarks, reaffirm support for SDF

The Women’s Council in the Council of Martyrs’ Families in Jazira canton responded to the remarks of Ahmed al-Sharaa, head of the Syrian Transitional Government, in which he downplayed the representation of the SDF, stressing that these forces “are the only power capable of protecting the Syrian people and defending its land.”

On September 13, al-Sharaa had stated that “the SDF does not represent the peoples of the region nor the Kurds,” a claim that provoked widespread rejection across North and East Syria.

Following that, the Women’s Council issued a statement at the Democratic Union Party (PYD) headquarters in Qamishlo, read by Women’s Council Co-Chair Jawaher Othman, which said: “We strongly condemn the statements of the Transitional Government. As families of martyrs, our sons sacrificed their lives in the ranks of the Syrian Democratic Forces to defend the people, society, and land.

 The SDF represents us and represents all communities whose sons became martyrs on the frontlines. To this day, the SDF defends our land against ISIS and all hostile schemes. We say to the Damascus government and to anyone plotting against our region: you are mistaken. In every home in our region there is either a martyr or a fighter in the ranks of the SDF. The SDF is our dignity, and we will continue supporting it until the end.”
