Martyrs' Families Council: Attacking martyrs' shrines regards attack on human values

Factions affiliated with the Syrian Interim Government and the Turkish occupation state targeted martyrs' shrines in Raqqa, al-Shaddadi, and Deir ez-Zor, inflicting damage and vandalism on several sites.

In this context, the Martyrs' Families Council in Kobani expressed its dismay at these violations in a statement delivered at the Martyr Dijla Shrine in Kobani city, in the presence of council members and martyrs' families in the city. The statement was read by the council member Hiba Ma'mu.

The statement indicated that the Martyrs' Families Council in the Euphrates region commemorates the sacrifices of the martyrs, and condemns what it described as the systematic acts of vandalism targeting their shrines in areas where forces withdrew. It considered this a violation of the sanctity of the martyrs and an affront to human values. The statement also emphasized that targeting the gravestones of Syrian Democratic Forces fighters is an attempt to undermine the legacy of sacrifices made over ten years in the fight against ISIS.

The statement emphasized that the dignity of the martyrs is a red line, criticizing the international silence regarding these crimes and calling on the international community and human rights and humanitarian organizations to assume their responsibilities in monitoring and documenting what is happening, and to demand the formation of an independent international commission of inquiry to hold those responsible accountable.

In conclusion, the Martyrs' Families Council renewed its pledge to uphold the martyrs' values and preserve their memory, affirming that targeting cemeteries will not affect the will of their families. It also offered its condolences to the families of the martyrs, praising their sacrifices and their role in shaping a new era in the region's history.
