Martyrs' Families: AVA TV's actions are insult to symbols of struggle

The Martyrs' Families Councils in the cities of Hasaka, Tell Tamer, and Derbasiya issued a joint statement on Friday which was read in Tell Tamer by the council's co-chair, Jenar al-Saleh, at the city's eastern entrance, in Hasaka, it was read by the member of the Women's Committee within the Martyrs' Families Council, Khuloud Khalaf, and in Derbasiya, the statement was read by the council member Nada Hassen.  Dozens of residents, members of civil society organizations, families of martyrs, and representatives of political parties attended in the readings.

The statement condemned "the action taken by AVA TV, which involved obscuring the face of leader Abdullah Ocalan during its broadcast," considering it a serious transgression that targets the national and revolutionary symbols of the Kurdish people.

It clarified that this act cannot be considered a mere media error, but rather reflects involvement in policies aimed at erasing the Kurdish identity and undermining the will of the people.

It emphasized that the attempt to obscure the image of the leader does not serve the national interest at a time when unifying ranks and strengthening the national discourse are required.

The statement demanded the channel's management to issue a formal and clear apology to the Kurdish people, especially the families of the martyrs, and called at the same time on the Kurdish media outlets to adhere to national and professional responsibility, and to refrain from anything that could incite division or disrespect the struggle symbols.

The statement concluded by affirming that the status of leader Abdullah Ocalan will remain firmly rooted in the conscience of the people, and that attempts to obscure or distort his image will not diminish his symbolic significance or the justice of the cause he represents.
