Latest security, military developments in Deir ez-Zor
Groups from the Damascus government forces and their mercenaries “National Defense” infiltrated the Autonomous Administration areas in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor , leading to clashes with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). These confrontations resulted in the death of 8 and injury of 16 members of the Damascus forces, while sporadic clashes continue in a single town.
The Syrian Democratic Forces repelled an attack by the Damascus government forces and their mercenaries “National Defense” around 2:00 AM (Tuesday-Wednesday night) on towns in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor Canton, NE Syria region.
The Damascus government forces and “National Defense” mercenaries launched an artillery and heavy weapons assault from their positions in the countryside of Mayadin and al-Bukamal and the al-Ashara area. They specifically targeted the vicinity of the town of Diban and other towns such as al-Shahil, al-Tayyana, Darnaj, Abu Hardoub, Abu Hamam, al-Latwa, and Gharanij in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
Simultaneously with the shelling, groups from the Damascus government forces and National Defense mercenaries , under the orders of the head of the so-called "General Intelligence Service," named "Hossam Louka," infiltrated the Autonomous Administration areas in eastern Deir ez-Zor using boats from their points in the towns of (Bakras Fawqani, Bakras Tahtani, al-Qwerah, and Sabikhan), according to local sources from the Damascus government areas.
The indiscriminate and brutal shelling by the Damascus government forces on populated areas in eastern Deir ez-Zor resulted in the martyrdom of civilians and the injury of 7 others, including two children, according to a statement from the SDF media center today.
In response, the Deir ez-Zor Military Council forces countered the infiltration and Damascus forces' cells that moved in coordination with the attack, leading to clashes concentrated in the towns of Abriha, the vicinity of al-Basirah, Diban, al-Shahil, al-Tayyana, Darnaj, Abu Hardoub, Abu Hamam, al-Latwa, and Gharanij .
After approximately 4 hours of fighting, the Syrian Democratic Forces were able to eliminate the infiltrators from the Damascus government and National Defense mercenaries, resulting in the death of 8 attackers, with three of their bodies falling into the hands of the SDF, and 16 others injured. Some attackers fled back to the areas from which they had infiltrated, according to field commanders from the region.
Meanwhile, the Deir ez-Zor Military Council forces are operating cautiously in Abu Hamam, which is experiencing sporadic clashes due to the presence of infiltrators. The other towns and their surrounding areas are under a curfew imposed by security and military forces, with intensified military patrols and checkpoints.
On the other hand, the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor is witnessing internal displacement, with residents moving towards the northern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, specifically towards the al-Azbah countryside and the city of al-Suwar due to the shelling by Damascus government forces.
