Labor Day celebrations kick off in Jazira Canton
Residents of several areas in Jazira Canton are currently celebrating International Workers’ Day (Labor Day) through various artistic and cultural programs.
The central celebrations for International Workers’ Day (Labor Day) began shortly ago in two locations within Jazira Canton, NE Syria, under the slogan: “With the Call for Peace and a Democratic Society, Let Us Celebrate May 1st Together.” These events follow a series of celebrations that have taken place across the region since yesterday.
Since early morning, hundreds of residents from across the canton have gathered in the village of Suwaydiki, near the city of Derik, and at the Mezkift Dam Nature Reserve in the countryside of Tirbespiyê.
The celebration in Suwaydiki includes attendees from the cities of Derik, Girkê Legê, Çil Agha, TalTal Koçer, and the Kojarat area.
Meanwhile, the celebration at the Mezkift Dam in Tirbespiyê includes participants from the cities of Tirbespiyê, Tal Hamis, Qamishlo, and Amuda.
The celebrants, Kurds, Syriacs, Arabs, Yazidis, and other communities of the region, arrived at the celebration sites wearing their traditional clothing and carrying images of Leader Abdullah Ocalan as well as symbols representing their respective labor organizations.
The festivities began with a moment of silence and welcoming speeches by the organizing committees. According to the preparatory committee, the celebration in Suwaydiki, Derik, will include speeches along with artistic and cultural performances by music and dance groups such as: Jodi Band, singer Soumaya Mohammed, poet Farhad Marda, Al-Fatrya Band, Martyrs of Qerchoq Dance Group, singer Tarek Al-Hussein, singer Hassan Derki, and singer Wael Hajo.
At the Mezkift Dam celebration in Tirbespiyê, the program will include musical, theatrical, and dance performances by: Botan Band, Nowruz Band, Akri Band, singer Lawin Saeed Youssef, Martyr Rivan Dance Group, Sakina Theater Group, singer Mahmoud Osman, singer Moayyad Shweish, Martyr Khabat Band, and singer Imad Suleiman.
As the crowds gathered in front of the stages, hundreds of families spread out around the sites to enjoy nature.
Meanwhile, the city of Hasaka is also preparing to host Labor Day celebrations this evening at 6:00 PM in the April 4th Park, with participation from residents of Hasaka, Darbasiyah, Tal Tamr, Tal Brak, Al-Hol, and Al-Shaddadi.
Celebrations for Labor Day were also held yesterday, Tuesday, in the regions of Tabqa, Raqqa, and Deir ez-Zor.
