KNK Co-Chair calls for unified Kurdish stance across all parts of Kurdistan

The Co-chair of the Kurdistan National Congress (KNK), Mr. Ahmet Karamos, emphasized the significance of the recent call by Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocalan and the position taken by the Kurdistan Freedom Guerrillas (Kurdistan Gerîla). He stated that the success of this historic process depends on unified Kurdish ranks.

In an interview with ANHA Agency, Karamos described the leader’s call and the accompanying statements by the Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK) and Kurdish forces as pivotal developments.

Karamos highlighted that this is the first time a Kurdish leader has issued such a declaration from within the enemy’s prisons and in the presence of his comrades.

“Historically, all Kurdish leaders were either executed or assassinated before their voices could be heard. However, Mr. Ocalan’s message has not only resonated with the Kurdish people but also drawn positive attention internationally, including from countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany,” he noted. “This message aims to create a political solution for the Kurdish question.”

He emphasized that Mr. Ocalan’s efforts are not new, pointing out: “Since 1993, Mr. Ocalan has repeatedly stated his readiness for dialogue. His February 27th message is a continuation of this long-standing pursuit of peace.”

Karamos also recalled the PKK's decision to end the armed struggle, stating: “The guerrilla movement's stance must not be seen as surrender. On the contrary, it reflects integrity and sincerity. We view their position as sacred and extend our full support.”

He further stressed that the KNK has supported Mr. Ocalan’s calls from the outset. “ Leader Ocalan’s joint statement with his comrades from Imrali Prison marks the beginning of a second phase. We interpret this as indicative of ongoing discussions and understandings with the state. The Kurdish forces are adhering to this process,” he said.

However, Karamos criticized the Turkish state for its lack of seriousness in response. “There is no trust-building initiative, no willingness to take concrete steps. We expected, as part of the dialogue, the establishment of a parliamentary committee and the enactment of legislative reforms to eliminate obstacles to a peaceful resolution. But Turkey has shown no genuine readiness. On the contrary, repression and pressure on opposition forces are intensifying,” he warned.

Karamos continued, “Turkey appears unprepared for democracy. Democracy is non-negotiable—it has established rules and principles. There must be space for all citizens to freely express ideas and organize themselves. Legal and institutional reforms are necessary to lay the foundation for democratic society.”

He called the current phase a “historic opportunity” and urged all Kurdish political forces to support it: “The KNK fully supports this process. Mr. Ocalan’s message is of historic importance. All parts of Kurdistan must participate in this initiative to achieve a solution. This is a time to enhance dialogue and peaceful resolution.”

He concluded by stating, “The Kurdish movement is currently in negotiations, but there are also significant risks. Therefore, a united and coordinated effort across all regions is vital for a lasting solution. Ideological differences must be set aside in favor of national unity and collective action.”
