Kidnapped Yazidi girl Riham returns to Shengal

The Yazidi House in the Jazira Canton of North and East Syria has handed over the kidnapped Yazidi girl, Riham Haji Hami, to the Shengal Council in the presence of her parents.

Today, the Shengal Council received Riham Haji Hami, in the presence of her parents, from the co-chairs of the Yazidi House in the Jazira Canton, Leyla Maamo and Ismail Delf, with representatives of the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ), who had freed her, also in attendance.

The Shengal Council extended its gratitude to the Women’s Protection Units, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), and the Internal Security Forces for their tireless efforts in rescuing the abducted from the Shengal district.

Riham, now 20 years old, was found and freed by the SDF from the al-Hol Camp.

She was just nine years old when she was kidnapped by ISIS mercenaries. Since then, she had been missing along with her sister, five brothers, and around 30 other relatives who were also abducted. Their fate remains unknown.

On August 3, 2014, ISIS mercenaries launched a large-scale attack on Shengal, during which they committed massacres against thousands of Yazidis and abducted women and children.
