K. Star Council in Lebanon supports YPJ

The Kongra Star Council in Lebanon announced its support for the Women's Protection Units (YPJ) in Rojava on Sunday, affirming that these units represent the will of women wherever they reside. This came in a statement issued at the Newroz Cultural Association Center in the capital, Beirut.

The statement noted that the region is witnessing rapidly escalating challenges accompanied by a surge in violence and conflict, which directly impact women. It emphasized that women's right to defend themselves and their communities is a legitimate right guaranteed by humanitarian principles and international conventions, especially given the targeting of women and children.

The statement added that women have not only been victims in recent years but have also played a pivotal role in protecting society, providing prominent examples of resilience and resistance. Among the most notable examples are the Women's Protection Units (YPJ), which have contributed to combating terrorism, protecting civilians, and promoting the values of freedom and equality.

The Council affirmed its unequivocal support for the YPJ, stressing the necessity of including them in any future agreement with the Interim Government, which would ensure the recognition of their role and sacrifices, and preserve their independence and structure as an organized women's force within a comprehensive national framework. He also stressed that enhancing women's participation in security and defense institutions represents a fundamental step towards achieving a just and lasting peace in Syria.

The statement concluded by calling on feminist and democratic forces and the public opinion to support the struggle of Syrian women and stand by their leading role in protecting society and building a more stable and just future.
