“Just as Feb. 15 conspiracy failed, so too will conspiracy targeting Rojava”

Residents of Ad-Darbasiyah stated that the attacks against Rojava are a continuation of the international conspiracy that targeted leader Abdullah Ocalan. They affirmed that the February 15 conspiracy failed thanks to the resistance of the Kurdish people, and that the current conspiracy against Rojava will likewise fail through continued resistance.

On October 9, 1998, the forces of capitalist modernity initiated an international conspiracy against leader Abdullah Ocalan. It began with his expulsion from Syria and culminated in his abduction in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, and his handover to the Turkish state on February 15, 1999.

In this context, residents of the city of Ad-Darbasiyah condemned the conspiracy and the forces and parties involved in it.

Citizen and member of the Ad-Darbasiyah City Council, Mohammed Saleh Mohi, affirmed that the conspiracy targeting Abdullah Ocalan was an international plot involving several parties, including Israeli and American intelligence agencies, and that it aimed to eliminate the leader’s intellectual and political project.

He explained that Ocalan left Syria at the time in order to prevent bloodshed in Kurdistan and to expose the reality of the Turkish state as hostile to democracy and the rights of the Kurdish people. He noted that the leader’s arrest did not bring an end to his project; rather, it prompted the Kurdish people to escalate activities and protests in defense of his ideas. He added that the continued dissemination of the leader’s ideas from within İmralı Prison led to the failure of the conspiracy to achieve its objectives.

For his part, Khalil Dawoud Qazou, a member of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) in Ad-Darbasiyah, stated that what occurred in 1999 constituted a fully-fledged international conspiracy. He pointed out that Abdullah Ocalan moved between several countries before being arrested in Nairobi with the assistance of Israeli and American intelligence services.

He added that the current phase is witnessing a repetition of the same scenario in Rojava, which is facing attacks aimed at erasing Kurdish identity and targeting the Democratic Nation project.

He stressed that the Kurdish people rely on their own will in confronting challenges, emphasizing that resistance remains the means of defending identity and existence. He further stated that what is happening today targets the philosophy of the Democratic Nation and the principle of coexistence among the region’s components.

In turn, Abeer Hassan, administrator of the Women’s Council of the Democratic Union Party in Ad-Darbasiyah, said that the conspiracy targeting Abdullah Ocalan marked a pivotal moment in the history of Kurdish struggle. She noted that thousands of women participated in broad activities in defense of democratic thought, reflecting the pioneering role of women in protecting this project.

She added that the July 19th Revolution of 2012 came as a practical response to thwart the conspiracy, affirming that the Democratic Nation project succeeded in embracing the region’s diverse components. This, she said, prompted certain states to attempt to undermine it due to its conflict with their interests by launching attacks on Rojava.

She further indicated that the conspiracy sought to undermine the principle of the brotherhood of peoples and to sow discord among the region’s components. However, the awareness of the peoples and their commitment to coexistence prevented those objectives from being realized.

The speakers concluded by emphasizing that the Kurdish people do not seek war, but remain committed to their right to self-defense. They stressed that resistance will continue in the face of any attempts to target identity and the Democratic Nation project, and that conspiracies will fail before the cohesion and unity of the peoples.
