The young man Hassan Hatoum was killed and four others were injured as a result of shelling that targeted one of the axes of Sweida city in southern Syria, according to local sources.

The sources explained that the shelling originated from the western villages of Sweida’s countryside, which are controlled by factions affiliated with the Syrian Interim Government.

The National Guard Command stated:

“Damascus government terrorist forces targeted the western axis of the city using mortar shells and drones, continuing their systematic attacks on contact lines and areas near residential neighborhoods. The attack resulted in the death of one person and the injury of four others, one of them in critical condition.”

It added: “The National Guard Command affirms that our units deployed on the front lines are responding immediately and firmly to the sources of violations within the defensive duties assigned to them, in a way that ensures the protection of our people, the safety of our forces, and prevents any attempt to destabilize security and stability.”

The axes around Sweida city witness intermittent security tensions and reciprocal shelling, amid fears of further escalation in the area.
