Jurists : Turkish occupation commits war crimes against civilians,violates Resolution 2,254

Yesterday, the Turkish occupation's air force targeted the civilian convoy heading to Tishrin Dam, resulting in civilian deaths and injuries. In this regard, the Lawyers' Union in al-Jazira Canton and the Social Justice Court issued a statement condemning the Turkish occupation state's targeting of the convoy.

The statement was delivered before the People's Court in the city of Qamishlo by Mahmoud Khalo, a member of the Bar Association in al-Jazira Canton, in the presence of members of the Bar Association in al-Jazeera Canton, the Social Justice Council in al-Jazira Canton, and independent lawyers. It stated:

"After decades of injustice and tyranny at the hands of the Baath regime and the Assad family, the Syrians celebrated this victory and historic achievement and prepared to rebuild Syria anew. However, the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries have been launching attacks on areas in north and East Syria, especially the Tishreen Dam, for about a month now, through continuous artillery shelling and airstrikes in order to occupy the dam and deprive the Syrian people of electricity and water, similar to what they did during the occupation of Serekaniye, and deprive the city of al-Hasakah, which includes millions of Syrian people with all its components, of drinking water.

On Wednesday, 8-1-2025, a convoy of civilians headed to the Tishreen Dam to stop the attacks on the dam, which was bombed by drones belonging to the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries, resulting in martyrs and wounded.

We confirm that targeting civilians It is a war crime, a crime against humanity, and a violation of all international covenants, charters, and norms, and a clear violation of UN Resolution 2,254 and the outcomes of the Aqaba Conference that adopted this resolution.

Accordingly, we appeal to the United Nations, all relevant international and human rights organizations, and the international coalition forces to intervene immediately to stop these attacks, deter Turkey and its mercenaries from their arbitrary and expansionist practices against the Syrian people and infrastructure, and preserve the sovereignty of the Syrian state.
