The crimes of murder, kidnapping, looting, seizing citizens' homes and properties, and destroying nature continue in Afrin, which has been occupied by Turkey and its mercenaries since 2018.

According to data and statistics documented by local institutions, the Turkish occupation army and its mercenaries cut down and burned 360,270 trees during 2018 and 2019.

They cut down 72,000 trees in 2020, and uprooted hundreds of trees to build a road between the Turkish cities of Jandaris and Adana.

Reports also indicate that 23,000 trees were cut down and burned during 2021, and large areas were burned in order to build settlements.

They cut down 36,000 fruit trees and burned more than 10,000 hectares of agricultural land during 2022.

More than 16,000 trees and more than 70 hectares were burned, and a thousand trees were cut down during 2023.

Reports indicate that more than 2,500 trees have been cut down since the beginning of this year alone.

Recently, the mercenaries of the "National Army" and a number of settlers burned 372 hectares of oak, olive and cherry trees in the villages of Semalka and Midana, affiliated with the city of Rajo, 160 hectares in the village of Avrazeh, affiliated with the city of Mobata, and 40 hectares in the village of Hassan, affiliated with Raju. The number of trees burned from the village of Midana to the village of Semalka is about two thousand forest trees and 3,800 olive trees.

The fires are intentional

A member of the Afrin-Syria Human Rights Organization, Ibrahim Sheikho, told ANHA's agency about those fires and practices that took place during the past few days, that they are deliberate and intentional. "It is said that the cause of the fires in Afrin is the high temperatures, but our sources from inside Afrin confirm that the fires are intentional by the mercenaries of the Turkish state."

He pointed out the reasons for those intentional acts: "There are 7 centers for producing coal in the areas under the occupation of the mercenaries of "Hamzat and Sultan Suleiman Shah" in the villages of Midana, Hasi, Kom Rashi, Jamrouk and Mobata, where they export coal to Turkey, where a kilo is sold there for about 8-9 dollars."

Sheikho revealed that the fields and lands that were recently burned are located between the plains of the village of Adamo and the Ekbes Square, and said: "In addition to the trees, they burned 230 hectares of land, and 250 hectares of land between the towns of Bulbul and Rajo in Mount Hawar."

Shekho confirmed: "They burned more than two thousand olive and pistachio trees in the village of Kosanli and a thousand trees in Kondi Diki."

Ibrahim Sheikho confirmed that the mercenaries of the Turkish occupation state cut down more than half a million olive trees and 21 million trees of various varieties and burned 39 thousand hectares of green spaces since the occupation of Afrin in 2018.

He said: "They turned Afrin into a desert, and the people are working to extinguish the fires with their limited capabilities, and the crimes of the Turkish state have not stopped for 7 years, while the whole world remains silent about these violations, and the criminals must be held accountable."
