Journalist Suleiman Ahmed detained for 372 days by KDP

The KDP authorities have continued to hold journalist and Roj News editor Suleiman Ahmed for 372 days, after the Dohuk Criminal Court sentenced him to three years in prison on July 29. This decision was made despite the absence of any evidence in the case file or documents to prove anything, sparking widespread controversy in media and legal circles.

On September 8, one of Suleiman Ahmed’s lawyers, Nariman Ahmed, revealed information regarding the session of the S. Kurdistan Court of Appeal on Ahmed’s case. He said, "The case is currently before the Court of Appeal and will be decided soon."

He added, "There is insufficient evidence against Suleiman Ahmed, yet he was sentenced to three years in prison," and called for "pressure on the Court of Appeal to overturn the Dohuk Court’s decision, halt this repression, and restore dignity to the judiciary."

Suleiman Ahmed was kidnapped by the KDP forces at the Fish Khabur crossing on October 25, 2023, while returning to S. Kurdistan after visiting his family in Sheikh Maqsoud, Aleppo, on October 1.
