A Turkish occupation drone bombed the car carrying journalists, Jihan Belkin "Jian", ANHA agency's correspondent, and Nazim Dashtan, on December 19, south of Kobani, while they were carrying out a journalistic mission to expose the crimes committed by the Turkish occupation state, which led to their martyrdom and the injury of the driver.

Citizens from the cities of Derik, Jil Agha, and Tal Hamis in al-Jazira canton condemned this crime and denounced the repeated targeting of journalists by the Turkish occupation state.

Hiam Abdo, a resident of the city of Derik, indicated that "the Turkish occupation state targets all components of North and East Syria, and carries out massacres against them, and in order to hide its crimes, it targets journalists who seek to monitor the truth of the attacks and convey them to the world."

She explained that "the latest victims of this targeting were journalists Cihan Belkin and Nazim Dashtan in Kobani, who played an important role in conveying the voice of society to the world."

For his part, citizen Diyar Ahmed from the city of Jal Agha pointed out that the goal of the attacks of the Turkish occupation state is to "break the will and unity of the components of the region."

Ahmed stressed that targeting journalists in northern and eastern Syria aims to silence the voice of truth and prevent it from reaching the world.

Diyar added that "the targeting of journalists Jihan Belkin and Nazim Dashtan by the Turkish occupation state came as a result of their documentation of the resistance of the people of Kobani who chose resistance instead of surrendering to the threats of the occupation."

He explained that "the goal of this targeting is also to hide the heroic efforts of the Syrian Democratic Forces in confronting the Turkish occupation in Tishrin Dam and Qaraqozq Bridge."

In turn, citizen Abdul Salam al-Jassem from the city of Tel Hamis said that "this terrorist act represents a direct targeting of the free media, which seeks to expose the crimes and violations committed by the Turkish occupation state in North and East Syria."

He stressed that "this attack is a continuation of the Turkish occupation's policy of targeting the basic values of society, most notably freedom of the press."

For her part, citizen Mawia al-Hadid from the city of Tal Hamis praised the great struggle presented by journalist Jihan Belkin, saying: "The martyr Jihan Belkin was an example of a brave journalist, who made her pen and camera a voice for the revolution of the peoples, and the revolution of women in particular."

Mawia spoke about the years of journalistic struggle that Jihan had waged, and indicated that she "worked for more than eight years as a correspondent for ANHA, where she played a pivotal role in conveying the truth to public opinion and exposing the crimes of the Turkish occupation."

This targeting of journalists constitutes a flagrant violation of international laws and conventions that grant them protection during conflicts.
