In an exclusive opinion poll conducted by ANHA's agency in Qamishlo and Tirbespî towns, people from the Jazira canton expressed their support for the resolutions and results published by the 12th PKK Congress, recently convened under multi-dimensional regional realities along with political and security challenges around various parts of the Middle East.

A Vision for Peace and Democratic Transformationç

Citizen Mahdi Musa described the conference as a "historic step" and a new era to achieve peace. He was adamant that the current phase requires the commencement of a coexistence project of people in a situation of justice and democracy.

Citizen Fasla Suleiman welcomed Leader Abdullah Ocalan and the fighters, and believed that the outcomes of the conference were filled with a victory spirit and were with the promise of a brighter future. She re-emphasized that Leader Abdullah Ocalan's concepts "will always remain a guide" to the freedom movement.

Invitations for Physical Freedom for Leader Abdullah Ocalan

Equally, some of the residents urged for the liberation of Leader Abdullah Ocalan, abducted since 1999, as his physical freedom was "a precondition to reaching peace" within Turkey and in the region.

Citizen Mustafa al-Omar said Leader Abdullah Ocalan "made wonderful sacrifices for the freedom of peoples," pointing out that "truth and goodness" emerged as a consequence of his leadership.

Citizen Abdul Baqi Dawi emphasized that Leader Abdullah Ocalan was the leader who issued the "call for peace and a democratic society" and invited the international community to take concrete steps towards this call and end policies targeting to "silence the voice of peace in Turkey."

A Critical Stage in Kurdish History

Various speakers described the conference as reaching its "crucial stage" for the Kurdish issue, against the backdrop of rising security conditions and political tensions in the region.

Citizen Suleiman Hussein noted that the conference is a response to the invitation of Leader Abdullah Ocalan, and therefore is an important event which "could contribute to laying the foundations for a comprehensive political settlement in the Middle East."

Citizen Kadriya Khalil welcomed the conference, assuring its messages will carry the "call for peace" to all people.

Mizgin Lazgin said that Leader Abdullah Ocalan's ideas contain "the solution to the Middle East problems," particularly the suffering of the Kurdish people in Northern Kurdistan.

A crisis regional climate and calls for dialogue.

This mass support for the PKK conference comes at a time of increased tension over the Kurdish question, both within Turkey and in Syria and Iraq. This is amidst continued military campaigns, an economic blockade of the autonomous regions, military attacks, and political setbacks for the democratic experiment there.

On the contrary, the PKK repeatedly calls for a "comprehensive democratic dialogue" to resolve the Kurdish question without violence and weapons.
