Israeli-Syrian meeting in Paris tonight

Two informed sources confirmed to the American website Axios today that a meeting will be held this evening in Paris between Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer, the Foreign Minister of the Syrian Transitional Government, Asaad al-Shibani, and the US Envoy to Syria, Tom Barrack.

According to the American website, the (Israeli-Syrian) meeting will discuss security aspects and border arrangements between the two countries.

It is worth noting that this meeting was scheduled to take place last week but was postponed at the last minute. This will be the second time in a month that Dermer and al-Shibani have met under US auspices, after nearly 25 years of near-total diplomatic severance between the two countries.

According to the website, the previous negotiations took place between Israeli Minister of Strategic Planning, Ron Dermer, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs in the transitional government, Asaad al-Sheibani.

The meeting lasted four hours, and the discussion focused on easing tensions between the two countries. Israeli sources told Axios that the two sides intended to agree on imposing security in southern Syria and a ceasefire.

According to Axios, the Trump administration is trying to mediate between Israel and Syria to reach an agreement on establishing a humanitarian corridor from Israel to the southern Syrian city of Sweida, to provide aid to the Druze community there.
