Israeli media reported on Wednesday evening that estimates indicate Ahmed al-Sharaa, head of the transitional government in Syria, will announce a ceasefire and the withdrawal of his forces from Suweida in southern Syria.

A security source told Israel’s “Channel 14” that Israel is “close to resolving the escalation in Syria.”

In this context, the United States has called on the transitional government to withdraw its forces from Suweida province to pave the way for de-escalation.

U.S. President Donald Trump stated this evening that Washington looks forward to reducing tensions and helping Syria achieve stability.

For his part, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said, “We are on the path to real de-escalation, and we hope afterward to return to the right track to help Syria build a state and achieve a more stable situation in the Middle East.”

He added that the United States hopes to see progress in these efforts within the next few hours.
