ISIS mercenaries attack Damascus forces in Homs desert

ISIS mercenaries attacked points belonging to the Damascus forces in the Homs desert, after that members of Damascus forces withdrew towards Al-Koum town in Al-Sokhnah.

SOHR stated that, "Members of “ISIS” cells attacked several posts of the 17th Division of the Damascus forces and the “National Defence”, near Al-Taybah town within the eastern Homs desert, where violent clashes erupted between both sides, and “ISIS” members were able to block Al-Koum – Al-Sokhnah road, which resulted in the withdrawal of the members of the 17th Division and the “National Defence” towards Al-Koum town. No causalities were reported."

On January 9, SOHR reported that 14 members of Damascus forces were killed and 19 others sustained various injuries in an attack by ISIS on a military bus carrying members of Damascus forces in the “Third Station” area in Palmyra desert in eastern Homs countryside.

Since the beginning of this year, the Syrian desert has witnessed a remarkable escalation in attacks by ISIS mercenaries on various areas within Damascus-held areas.
