Iranian authorities continue threats, pressure on activists in E. Kurdistan

Iranian authorities summoned four Kurdish female activists, along with the mother of one of the victims of the “Women, Life, Freedom” uprising, subjecting them to interrogation and direct threats by the intelligence agency aimed at preventing their participation in annual commemorations of activist Jina Amini’s death.

The human rights organization “HANA” reported that the Iranian intelligence agency in the city of Sanandaj, East Kurdistan, arrested 71-year-old Kurdish citizen Nuhiya Rahimi, mother of one of the victims of the “Women, Life, Freedom” uprising, without any judicial warrant. She was detained for several hours, during which she underwent intense interrogation and faced direct threats intended to prevent her from participating in any events or memorial ceremonies honoring the uprising’s victims.

The report also mentioned that on the same day, four Kurdish activists were summoned for investigation and threats by the intelligence agency. They are: Simin Jayji (poet and writer), Fatima Zand Karimi (education activist), Marziya Murad Vaisi, and Sosan Razani (civil society activists in Sanandaj, East Kurdistan).

The killing of young Kurdish woman Jina Amini on September 16 by Iran’s “Morality Police” sparked widespread protests across Eastern Kurdistan and Iran under the slogan “Women, Life, Freedom,” becoming a global symbol of resistance against repression and a defense of women’s freedom.
