Ali Sharifzadeh Arkani, the lawyer representing Kurdish artist Shohreh Qamar, announced that the Iranian authorities sentenced his client to 4 years and 8 months in prison. He also stated that he has filed an appeal against the verdict.

Arkani explained that Shohreh Qamar, originally from the city of Sanna in East Kurdistan and currently residing in Tehran, was charged by the Revolutionary Court with “supporting Israel” and “spreading false news.”

The verdict was issued on April 13, amid ongoing security crackdowns on activists and artists who support the popular uprising in East Kurdistan and Iran.

It is worth noting that Shohreh Qamar was previously arrested on August 5, 2023, by the Iranian intelligence agency without an official court order. She spent 42 days in the notorious Evin Prison before being temporarily released.

She had also previously been sentenced to 15 months in prison in an earlier case related to her support for the "Woman, Life, Freedom" movement.
