Abbas Hussein, the director of the political affairs department in Hasaka, appointed by the Syrian Interim Government, stated that a number of prisoners held by the government are scheduled to be released tomorrow.

Hussein made this statement to ANHA correspondent, who is covering the return of displaced people from Afrin, while in Hasaka city, without disclosing further details about the number of prisoners or the mechanism for their release.

Cities in Rojava have recently witnessed daily protests organized by families of prisoners, political activists, and civil society representatives, denouncing what they describe as the Interim Government's procrastination in implementing the prisoner release clause, despite the agreement signed between the two sides on January 29th, which stipulates a prisoner exchange and the emptying of prisons.

These prisoners are fighters who were captured during their withdrawal from certain positions, in accordance with the understandings reached between the Interim Government and the Syrian Democratic Forces.

The commander-in-chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces, Mazloum Abdi, had stated two days earlier that the total number of detainees held by the interim government was about 1,070 people, including civilians.
