Interim government admits committing crime against farmers in Suwaida 

The Syrian Interim Government forces targeted ten civilian farmers in the town of Al-Matouna in the northern countryside of Suwaida, killing four and wounding two others, while the fate of the remaining three is still unknown.

The official news agency of the Syrian Interim Government quoted the head of internal security in Suwaida, Hussam Al-Tahhan, as saying that initial investigations, in cooperation with a survivor, revealed that one of the suspects belonged to the Internal Security Directorate in the area. He confirmed that the officer had been arrested and referred for investigation to complete the legal procedures.

In the same context, the National Guard Command in Suwaida issued a statement holding the interim government responsible for the incident. The statement explained that forces stationed in the area opened fire on farmers after allowing them access to their agricultural lands, resulting in the death of four and injuries to two others, one of whom is in critical condition. The fate of the remaining two is still unknown.

The statement asserted that the incident constitutes a violation of international humanitarian law and an attack on civilians. It called upon international bodies and humanitarian organizations to follow up on the case, investigate its circumstances, and hold those responsible accountable.

The National Guard Command also stressed the urgent need to take measures to protect civilians and prevent the recurrence of such incidents, warning of their repercussions on security and stability and the worsening humanitarian situation in the region.
