In memoriam: Nefiya Ezîz, Mother for Peace, passes away

Nefiya Ezîz, known as "Havo," passed away yesterday, Friday, in the city of Qamishlo after a battle with cancer, at the age of 76.

Nefiya Ezîz, known as "Yadê Hefo," was born in Qamishlo in 1948 and had ten children. Her son, a fighter in the People's Protection Units (YPG), Yusuf Nabi (Şivan Rohat), was martyred in Serêkaniyê on October 11, 2019. The son of her husband's brother, whom she had raised, fighter Hussein Nabi (Çavreş) from the YPG, was martyred in Raqqa on September 4, 2017.

Nefiya Ezîz became acquainted with the Kurdish liberation movement during the 1990s and joined the July 19 Revolution as one of the Mothers for Peace. She participated in many activities demanding the physical freedom of leader Abdullah Ocalan and opposing the treachery of the Kurdistan Democratic Party and its alliance with the Turkish occupation state.

Nefiya Ezîz was diagnosed with uterine cancer in 2020 and passed away in a hospital in Qamishlo at 5:30 p.m. yesterday, Friday, due to the same illness. Her body was laid to rest in the village of Sikirka, near the city of Qamishlo.
