Ilham Ahmed: We want to discuss peace with Turkey

Co-chair of the Foreign Relations Department of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, Ilham Ahmed, participated via video in the International Conference on Peace and Democratic Society held in Istanbul, under the auspices of the Equality and Peoples’ Democracy Party.

At the beginning of her participation, Ilham Ahmed expressed her gratitude to all attendees and sent them her regards, noting that their gathering for peace is a highly important and noble endeavor.

Ilham Ahmed highlighted the importance of discussions on peace, stating: "Peace is being discussed in Turkey, which is very important, and Leader Abdullah Ocalan has a pivotal role in peace. He has taken this step despite isolation and has begun working toward peace."

She expressed her desire to attend the conference in person, saying: "But unfortunately, it seems that there are still obstacles. Dialogue must take place, as there are many barriers that we hope to remove. We want to continue this peace process in a permanent and proper manner so that we can achieve peace in Turkey."

"Laws for coexistence must be enacted"

During her speech, Ilham Ahmed addressed the issues of Rojava and Syria, saying: "We want to lead a democratic transformation process in Syria. We want to build a new Syria with all its components. We want all communities to live together under the rule of law and justice. We want everyone here to live freely according to their ideas and beliefs. Stability in Syria means stability in Turkey. Peace and stability here will also reflect on Turkey."

"The influence of Leader Abdullah Ocalan’s thought on Syria"

Ilham Ahmed noted Leader Ocalan’s long-standing presence in Syria and his impact on the region, adding: "His ideas have greatly influenced the peoples of Syria. Discussions on peace are very important and must continue with will and determination. The process has also affected Rojava and has had an impact on us. The Turkish government also influences the Syrian government. There are channels of communication between us and Turkey."

She clarified: "Leader Abdullah Ocalan must not remain isolated in prison. Achieving this will have a greater and faster impact on peace. Quick steps cannot be taken while he is imprisoned, and this detention hinders peace. When peace is achieved in both countries, democracy and stability will be established among Kurdish, Turkish, and Arab communities."

"Dialogue between us and Turkey must begin"

Ilham Ahmed emphasized their desire to start negotiations between Rojava and Turkey, stating: "We want to exchange visits with Turkish officials. We are not for war or weapons but for peace. We need a participatory and democratic life, and we will continue to uphold peace and democracy with greater determination than ever. Everyone must defend and work for peace."

Call to Trump

Ilham Ahmed called on US President Donald Trump to bring peace between Syria and Turkey, concluding her remarks: "I call on the American president, we want to achieve lasting peace in Syria and Turkey. The issue of peace must be raised loudly. It is time for everyone to take responsibility to prevent bloodshed and the crying of mothers. Let us work to make peace prevail in the region.
