On November 27, 2024, Afrin and Al-Shahba cantons were subjected to attacks by the Turkish occupation army, which led to the forced displacement of the people of Afrin on a second journey towards the Al-Jazira, the Tabqa and Raqqa cantons.

Many of the displaced people headed to the city of Girke Legê in Al-Jazira Canton, where the city council and the people received them and provided them with basic needs. However, the international silence regarding the attacks that the displaced people and the people of the NE Syria region are subjected to by the Turkish occupation mercenaries increases their suffering.

In this context, citizen Kamal Hassan, displaced from occupied Afrin, pointed out that this is the second time he has been displaced by the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries, and added: “We can’t forget the brutality we witnessed on the road during our displacement from Al-Shahba, and the injustice we were subjected to at the hands of the Turkish occupation army.

Kamal Hassan called on "international institutions and human rights organizations to take action to support the displaced," and stressed the need for them to return to their city and stop the attacks of the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries in NE Syria.

Hassan expressed his hope for a safe return to occupied Afrin and to live in safety and stability in their beloved city.

For her part, citizen Latifa Sido from Afrin spoke about her suffering during the forced displacement journey, saying: “What we faced in Afrin was the beginning of pain, but what increased our suffering was the repetition of this tragedy for the second time, as we are forced to leave part of our soul behind.”

She pointed to the difficulties she faced on the road due to the brutality of the Turkish occupation mercenaries, and called on international powers to assume their responsibilities towards the displaced people of Afrin.

She stressed that "returning to the homeland is not just a desire, but rather a right that must be realized."

In turn, Aisha Darwish, Deputy Co-chair of the Girkê  Legê City Council, confirmed that they provided all the basic needs of the forcibly displaced people, and that they are working to distribute families in the city and the countryside and meet their needs.

She pointed out that the council cooperates with everyone to solve any problem facing the displaced.
