The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that the seizure of civilian homes continues in the part of Deir ez-Zor city controlled by the Transitional Government in Syria — a situation that recalls what the former regime once did, except now it is carried out by new figures affiliated with the government.

According to the Observatory, “officers and members” of the Ministry of Defense within the Transitional Government forces have taken over homes and properties in Deir ez-Zor, amid an inability to stop these violations.

The Observatory said it had obtained a video recording of a citizen confirming that his house was confiscated by the so-called “Public Security” about ten months ago, despite a court order issued by the public prosecutor mandating the return of the property to him.

The citizen explained that he had approached various security and administrative bodies in vain, saying: “Everyone knows the house is mine, but the police who live in it refuse to leave.”

The Observatory also documented other testimonies from city residents. One neighbor said, “Everyone knows who owns that house. He is an expatriate who returned to reclaim it, but the influential man who took it refuses to leave despite repeated appeals.”

A relative of another victim confirmed that court rulings are not being enforced, adding: “We are living in clear injustice, and no one dares to intervene because the one who seized the house has connections with the current government.”
