High Elections Commission reveals date of formation of its committees within 7 Cantons

NE Syria is preparing for an electoral process, represented by the municipal elections that will be held next May 30, the draft administrative division law will be issued in the coming period according to the Commission to clarify the number of municipalities, administrative boundaries, and population census for each region and municipality.

It is expected that 3 million people from NE Syrian region will participate in the upcoming municipal elections, according to the co-chair of the High Elections Commission, Hussein Al-Sheikh, based on statistics from the Democratic Autonomous Administration for last year.

Al-Sheikh added that the High Electoral Commission begun forming commission committees in the 7 Cantons of the region, and their formation is scheduled to be completed during the next week, after the Democratic Peoples’ Councils in the provinces approve the committees and their members.

In turn, the committees of Cantons will form affiliated electoral committees within the province, at the level of cities, districts and towns.

Municipal elections will be held in NE Syria on May 30 to elect the Co-chairs of municipalities and members of local councils.
