Healthcare workers protest in Damascus over qualitative pay increase regulations

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a number of healthcare workers staged a protest on Friday at Al-Mujtahid Hospital in Damascus, calling for amendments to the executive regulations governing specialized pay increases, amid growing discontent over wage disparities and salary gaps among staff.

The protesters said, according to the Observatory, that the current regulations have created problems in the calculation of salaries and compensation, particularly when employees change positions or are transferred to another workplace. They argued that these provisions have affected the value of their financial entitlements and raised concerns about the fairness of the distribution of pay increases.

Participants in the protest called for the adoption of a unified increase to the basic salary for all job categories, along with granting occupation-specific compensation based on each position's job classification. They said such measures would ensure greater fairness among employees while maintaining a clear and balanced wage structure within healthcare institutions.

The protest comes amid growing demands from healthcare workers for a review of salary and compensation mechanisms to improve living conditions and reduce income disparities among employees.
