Graham warns of harsh sanctions on Damascus

U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham warned of imposing harsh sanctions under the “Caesar Act” if the forces of the interim government continue their advance, considering that ignoring U.S. warnings could lead to permanent damage to relations between Washington and Damascus.

In a new post on the platform X, Senator Lindsey Graham said he would push for the reimposition of strict “Caesar Act” sanctions if the interim government’s forces continue advancing in the north of the country.

Graham added that the interim government is not heeding his warnings or those of other officials in the U.S. administration, warning that continuing on this path would lead to “crushing sanctions” and cause lasting harm to relations between the United States and the interim government.

The U.S. senator noted that he had tried to deal fairly with the interim government, but these efforts were not met with a response, stressing that persisting in this approach could result in a confrontation with the U.S. Senate and permanent damage to relations between Washington and Damascus.

Graham concluded by saying that halting the advance and pulling back could help save the relationship between the two sides, expressing hope that the decision would be made “wisely.”
