Hasakah Governorate and its countryside are witnessing widespread shutdowns of electricity generators following the suspension of subsidized diesel allocated for their operation. This has exacerbated the electricity crisis and residents’ suffering, particularly amid rising temperatures and the lack of suitable alternatives, alongside increasing ampere and fuel prices and the approaching winter season.

Citizen Dahham Al-Aklah said that the interruption of ampere-powered electricity is due to the suspension of subsidized diesel supplies to generator owners, despite tanker trucks transporting oil to the governorates in the interior. He said this has directly affected the electricity situation in the governorate, amid rising fuel prices and declining living standards among residents.

Al-Aklah added that the electricity crisis represents an additional burden on the residents of Hasakah, given the lack of suitable alternatives for most people. He also noted that installing solar energy systems is beyond the financial means of a large segment of the population because of their high cost.

For his part, citizen Abdul Khaleq Al-Ali called on the relevant authorities to ensure fairness for residents and generator owners and to restore subsidies for the diesel allocated to operating the generators, with the aim of easing the burden on citizens.

Al-Ali pointed out that the continuation of the electricity crisis as winter approaches could make conditions even more difficult, particularly with the start of the new academic year.

He stressed that students need electricity for the educational process, in addition to the difficulty children and elderly people face in enduring prolonged power outages.

He also stressed the need to urgently secure heating fuel for residents before the arrival of winter, amid fuel prices in the free market rising to levels beyond the purchasing power of many citizens.

Meanwhile, citizen Ferhad Ahmad said that residents are living under difficult conditions due to high temperatures and power outages, noting that electricity had previously been available through generator owners, with the commercial ampere price standing at around $10.

He added that the power outage since the beginning of the month has prompted a number of shop owners to rely on solar energy systems as an alternative, while the price of a commercial ampere has risen to around $12, further increasing the burden on shop owners and citizens.

The electricity crisis in Hasakah comes amid rising fuel costs and declining purchasing power, making securing electricity and heating during the coming period an additional challenge for residents, given the limited alternatives and their high costs.
