On the occasion of the 128th anniversary of Kurdish Press Day, the Free Media Union is organizing the Martyr Mazlum Bagok Awards Ceremony for Hard Work, on Wednesday, April 22, at 11:00 AM, at the Mohammed Sheikho Center for Culture and Art in Qamishlo.

April 22nd marks Kurdish Press Day, the date of the first Kurdish newspaper, "Kurdistan," published in Cairo, Egypt, by the Celadet Bedirxan family. Since then, the Kurdish people have celebrated this occasion annually, marking a significant milestone in the history of Kurdish media.

Each year, on Kurdish Press Day, the Free Media Union honors a number of journalists by awarding them the Martyr Mazlum Bagok Award for their dedication.

The Martyr Mazlum Bagok Award for Dedication is an annual prize awarded by the Free Media Union to recognize journalists and media professionals who make exceptional efforts in reporting the truth and covering events, especially during times of war and crisis, and to commemorate the martyred journalist Mazlum Bagok.

In this context, the preparatory committee of the Free Media Union has finalized its preparations for the awards ceremony, to be held on Wednesday. The program will include a welcoming address, an opening speech, and remarks from various media outlets. A video presentation will then be shown, highlighting the history of Kurdish Press Day, the struggle to uphold truth and justice, and the life of martyr Mazlum Bagok.

The Union will also honor journalists with awards recognizing their efforts in reporting the truth and their deserving of these accolades. The awards are presented at three levels: global, Kurdish, and Rojava, and will be given to three journalists each.

Martyr Mazloum Bagok (Ahmed Saado) was the first journalist to be martyred while covering the battles in the Rojava region against ISIS mercenaries. He was born in Qamishli in 1992, the third son in his family. He began working in the media field from a young age, through some websites, and worked on producing several documentaries, including one about the Qamishlo uprising of March 12, 2004. Later, he joined the media center of the People's Protection Units (YPG) and covered many battlefronts until he was martyred on September 28, 2014, while covering as a journalist the campaign to open a humanitarian corridor between Rojava and Sinjar.
