The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported today that five people died as a result of torture in these prisons, with no official explanation or accountability provided.

The Observatory noted that four of the victims were residents of the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods, who died from torture after being arrested during the events in these areas on 26 January.

It also reported the death of another individual from the Alawite community on 9 January in one of the Interim Government’s detention centers in Homs, also due to torture.
