First Comment by General Council Sheikh Maqsoud- Ashrafieh Neighborhoods about agreement

The General Council of the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh Neighborhoods reached an agreement with the Damascus authorities today, the second day of Eid al-Fitr, that includes 14 main clauses. The contents were published a short while ago.

To learn more about this topic, ANHA's agency conducted an interview with Nouri Sheikho, the co-chair of the General Council of the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh Neighborhoods in Aleppo.

Sheikho began his remarks by congratulating all Syrians on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr. He noted that the recent agreement came after intensive negotiations over the past two months.

Sheikho described the agreement as a "necessary step" at this stage, saying it will pave the way for civil peace. He said that the signed terms came after discussions and taking into account the opinions of several representatives from the two neighborhoods.

Regarding the next phase, Sheikho indicated that they will work within a short period to form several specialized committees on the agreed-upon issues, including security, education, services, and others, to complete the discussions and reach sustainable solutions.

He continued, "This agreement will give residents the comfort of practicing their daily rituals by guaranteeing their rights at all levels and ensuring the privacy of the two neighborhoods, in addition to fair representation on the city council."

Sheikho also emphasized that the agreement will block attempts to create strife and divisions among the various segments of Syrian society.
