Figures in Derbasiya emphasize necessity of ensuring women's rights

Amid the ongoing discussions about the integration process in Syria, the issue of women's role emerges as one of the main points of contention between the Autonomous Administration and the Interim Government. Amid assurances of the necessity to ensure her participation in various fields and not to marginalize her in any future arrangement.

In this context, the administrator of the Democratic Union Party in the city of Ad-Derbasiya, Suleiman Khalil, clarified that there are several files within the process of institutional integration that are still under discussion and have not yet been resolved.

He pointed out that one of the most prominent issues is the role of women, especially the participation of the Women's Protection Units (YPJ), which are an effective military force that has made significant sacrifices and fought alongside the Syrian Democratic Forces against ISIS. They have their own system, making their marginalization or exclusion unacceptable. There is also a rejection of the role of Kongra Star.

Khalil pointed out that if the participation of the Women's Protection Units (YPJ) is not accepted, there will be a clear stance against any form or mentality that marginalizes or diminishes the role of women, as they possess an independent will and represent the essence of the struggle and resistance movement.

He indicated that men stand alongside women in this path, and that the struggle has been and continues to be shared between them, as the co-chairmanship system adopted for about 15 years has proven successful and has not faced any significant problems. He called for the continuation of the joint struggle to ensure women's rights and enhance their role in various fields.

For her part, Hamida Aiso, a member of the Women's House in Ad-Derbasiya, said that discussions and negotiations between the Autonomous Administration and the Interim Government are still ongoing within the framework of the integration process, without reaching a comprehensive agreement so far.

She explained that one of the main points of contention lies in the issue of integrating women into civil institutions and political and military fields, and that the interim government does not accept their participation, which reflects a mentality that rejects the role of women in decision-making positions.

She emphasized that any future governance formula in Syria must guaranty the rights of all components, foremost among them women's rights, ensuring their equal participation with men in various institutions, as well as in political, military, and diplomatic fields.

She added that the current stage requires continuing the struggle, along with raising awareness and enhancing dialog and negotiation, and the necessity of accepting the integration of the Women's Protection Units (YPJ) into any agreement, which the interim government has so far rejected.

Hamida Aiso pointed out that the Democratic Nation project aims to safeguard the rights of all components, granting women a central role and rejecting any formula that does not guaranty their rights and role. She emphasized that preserving the achievements made over the past years is a priority.

At the end of her speech, she affirmed that the Kongra Star and the Women's Protection Units (YPJ) are fundamental pillars in protecting women's rights, and she emphasized the rejection of reverting to the mentalities that have been overcome after years of struggle and sacrifices made by women in the pursuit of freedom and the establishment of this project.

For her part, the administrator in Kongra Star in the city of Ad-Derbasiya, Raghda Aziz, affirmed that the struggle for women's rights continues despite the challenges.

She pointed out that leader Abdullah Ocalan dedicated many years of his struggle to the issue of women and laid the foundations that women continue to follow today.

She explained that the current phase requires continuing the struggle to ensure an active role for women in various fields, enhancing their presence in all institutions, and establishing the principle of co-presidency in political and military domains.

She added that women have proven their capabilities through their role in struggle and organizational work, and that the presence of organized women's forces like the Women's Protection Units (YPJ) represents strength and identity for women.

She emphasized that any entity that does not accept the role of women will not be accepted by women, because women are a fundamental element in building society. She stated that preserving the achievements made over 15 years of struggle is essential, especially regarding their participation in various institutions.

At the end of her speech, she called on women to unite and work together to demand their full rights, to continue organizing events and activities that enhance the role of women in society, and to preserve the achievements that have been made without retreating from them.
