On Thursday, 12 February 2026, during its plenary session in Strasbourg, the European Parliament adopted a resolution on the situation in North and East Syria. The resolution emphasized the need to establish a sustainable ceasefire and prevent any new military escalation, warning of the severe humanitarian and security consequences of continued violence.

The Parliament condemned the ongoing Turkish military interventions and attacks targeting civilians and infrastructure, calling for respect for international humanitarian law, protection of the population, and unhindered humanitarian access.

It also called for independent and swift investigations into documented violations, including extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances, and arbitrary detention, stressing the importance of holding those responsible accountable.

The Parliament welcomed the agreement announced between the Syrian Interim Government and the Syrian Democratic Forces, considering it an important step toward consolidating the ceasefire, and urged all parties, particularly Turkey, to adhere to it and prevent any new attacks in the region.

The Parliament affirmed the crucial role played by Kurdish forces in combating ISIS, praising their sacrifices, and called for the protection of Kurdish community rights, their political participation, and the protection of women and their rights.

In conclusion, the resolution called for intensified diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions, build trust, and support a comprehensive, Syrian-led political process that preserves Syria’s territorial integrity and ensures lasting peace and stability.
