Education Body tackles issues in Serekaniye camp schools

 The Education Body of the Autonomous Administration in Jazira Canton held its annual expanded meeting with teachers from the Serekaniye area on Thursday evening at Marbella Restaurant in Hasaka city, attended by dozens of teachers.

 The meeting aimed to assess the educational situation of displaced students from Serekaniye living in camps and to discuss the main challenges facing teachers in temporary schools.

The meeting was chaired by the co-chair of the Education Body, Adnan Bari, along with Behiya Mammo, the spokesperson for the Schools Administration, and Mohammed Hajo, the spokesperson for the Serekaniye Schools Administration, with participation from teachers of the Serekaniye and Washokani camps.

Discussions focused on key obstacles, including the complexity and difficulty of the curriculum for displaced students, poor health conditions in the camps, and frequent student absences that negatively impact the educational process.

Participants emphasized the need to adopt modern teaching methods, better lesson preparation, and provide psychological support to students to improve the quality of education and overcome current challenges.

At the meeting’s conclusion, the co-presidency affirmed its commitment to implementing the meeting’s recommendations and working to sustainably improve the educational situation for displaced people.

Since the occupation of Serekaniye in 2019 by Turkish forces and their mercenaries, thousands of displaced students have faced difficult educational conditions in temporary camps, lacking proper infrastructure and sufficient psychological and social support.

Meanwhile, the Education Body of the Autonomous Administration continues its efforts to ensure the continuity of education and uphold children’s rights despite forced displacement.
