During protest calling for end to occupation of Serêkaniyê, Gire Spi

Dozens of Serêkaniyê displaced people, members of the Union of Intellectuals of Rojava Kurdistan, and representatives of civil society institutions and the Autonomous Administration in the Jazira Canton participated in the protest.

The protesters raised banners reading "We will return to Serêkaniyê one day", "Our demand is to end the occupation" and "No to demographic change".

After a minute of silence, a member of the Serêkaniyê Displaced People Committee, Riyi Aktah, read the letter that was delivered to officials at the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

The committee stated in its letter that the practices of the Turkish occupation state and its mercenaries in Serêkaniyê and Gire Spi are inconsistent with human rights, international laws, and United Nations charters for the protection of civilians.

In its letter, the committee demanded an end to the policy of demographic change and inhumane practices in Afrin, Serêkaniyê and Gire Spi. In the letter; "In Afrin, Serêkaniyê and Gire Spi, the policy of demographic change and acts against humanity must be prevented.

The Turkish state commits acts against humanity and does not abide by the security agreements it signed, so its practices must be condemned." It also demanded providing support and assistance to the people of North and East Syria, especially in Serêkaniyê and the occupied Syrian cities, in order to "end the occupation and the terrorist groups supported by the Turkish state. And to exert more pressure on the Turkish state and its mercenaries to withdraw from the areas it occupied in Syria."

After reading the letter, the protesters stood for 5 minutes to remember the martyrs of the occupation attacks on Serêkaniyê and Gire Spi. Then, a delegation delivered a letter on behalf of the protesters to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
