Deteriorating living conditions drive residents of rural Hasakah to migrate

The worsening living conditions in the eastern and southern countryside of Hasakah province continue to force residents to migrate to Syria's interior provinces, as soaring prices, declining public services, limited job opportunities, weak support for the agricultural sector, and the lack of basic services deepen the economic crisis.

The escalating economic hardship has pushed growing numbers of residents to leave the eastern and southern countryside of Hasakah in search of work and sources of income in other provinces and cities, amid worsening economic and service conditions and rising living costs.

Local sources said residents from the areas of Tal Brak, Tal Hamis, al-Hol, and al-Shaddadi have left for Damascus to work in factories, while others have headed to Daraa province to work on farms and in vegetable production projects in an effort to secure their livelihoods.

The sources added that recurring drought, limited support for the agricultural sector by the interim government, rising unemployment, declining purchasing power, and the continued lack of basic services and healthcare have deprived thousands of families of their sources of income.

They also said the interim government has failed to provide essential services, including diesel fuel supplies and salary payments, further worsening residents' hardship as public services continue to deteriorate and forcing more families to leave the area in search of better living conditions.

According to the sources, the current wave of migration is also linked to political factors, arguing that the interim government's policies and failure to provide basic services have contributed to rising levels of internal displacement and migration from the region.
