Dozens of residents of Derik organized a protest today at the entrance to the city, during which they read a public statement rejecting any attempts to change the names of Kurdish cities and villages in Rojava, describing such efforts as an attack on Kurdish identity and culture.

The statement was read by teacher Randa Haji, who said that despite ongoing discussions about integration and recognizing Kurdish rights, the Kurdish people continue to face violations targeting their identity, including attempts to rename Kurdish cities and villages in Rojava.

The statement stressed that the participants reject any decision to change the names of cities and villages, emphasizing that these names are an integral part of Kurdish history and culture and reflect the identity of the region.

The statement concluded by asserting that the success of the integration process requires the interim government to practically recognize the rights of the Kurdish people, respect their identity and culture, and preserve the names of cities and villages as part of their historical and cultural heritage.
