Democratic Islam requires protecting civilians, ending aggression in Sheikh Maqsoud, Ashrafiyeh

Following Friday prayers, the Democratic Islam Conference and religious scholars issued a statement across the Jazira canton, with the participation of religious scholars, sheikhs, prayers, and residents of neighborhoods and cities in several mosques throughout the region.

The statement was read at the Zain al-Abidin Mosque in Qamishlo city by the conference's co-chair Mazen Mohamed Harouni, at the Salah al-Din Mosque in Amuda by Sheikh Mohamed al-Qadri, at the Mulla Ahmad Mosque in Tirbê Spiyê by Mulla Mohamed Hassen; the head of the city's Religious Council, at the Ali ibn Abi Talib Mosque in Girkê Legê by Sheikh Wael Dershewi, at the Mulla Jaziri Mosque in Derik by Sheikh Masoum Dershawi, and at the Abdullah Mosque in Tel Hamis by Sheikh Taha Hassen; the member of the conference. The unified stance expressed a firm rejection of the ongoing violations against civilians.

The statement condemned the attacks and massacres targeting innocent civilians in the Sheikh Maqsoud, Ashrafiyeh, and Bani Zeid neighborhoods of Aleppo, and considered that targeting the residential areas and terrorizing women and children is a crime forbidden by both religion and morality.

He affirmed that among the definitive objectives of Islamic law are the preservation of human life, the protection of blood, the prevention of strife, and the prohibition of injustice and aggression.

He emphasized that any military action that results in the killing of civilians or endangers them indiscriminately constitutes a forbidden act of aggression and a grave sin, for which those who carry it out, support it, and plan it bear responsibility.

The statement indicated that inciting strife among the various components of Syrian society, Arabs, Kurds, and others falls under the category of spreading corruption on earth. It emphasized that the historical brotherhood and shared destiny between the Arab and Kurdish peoples must not be dragged into conflicts that serve external regional agendas at the expense of Syrians' blood and the unity of their society.

The statement also held the Turkish state legally and morally responsible for its continued military interventions and support of armed factions that attack civilians. It asserted that these practices constitute a violation of sovereignty and an unlawful act of aggression that cannot be justified by any religious or moral pretext.

The Democratic Islam Conference called upon scholars, jurisprudential councils, and Islamic institutions to adopt a clear legal stance condemning these attacks, prohibiting the shedding of Syrian blood, and criminalizing incitement to ethnic and sectarian strife, in accordance with the objectives of Islam and the values of co-existence and justice.

The statement concluded by emphasizing that protecting civilians, stopping aggression, and preserving civil peace are humanitarian and moral duties, and calling on the international community to take urgent action to stop the bloodshed and prevent the continuation of the occupation and interventions that deepen the suffering of Syrians and destroy their social fabric.
