Dozens of members of the Alawite community gathered today in front of the Alawite Office in the city of Dêrik in the Jazira region to issue a statement condemning the attacks targeting the residents of the coastal areas and Homs.

The statement was read by the co-chair of the Coastal Displaced Persons Office, Hatem Shaheen, who demanded an end to all attacks and massacres against Alawites in the coastal cities and Homs.

The statement noted that these violations affect everyone, especially women and children, and called for the immediate release of all detained and abducted women and girls from the Alawite community and other groups, and for holding the perpetrators of the coastal and Homs massacres accountable without delay.

It also urged all Arab and Islamic countries, the United Nations, European states, and those with a conscience to pressure the Syrian transitional government to stop crimes against civilians.

The gathering emphasized that their demand is for a decentralized federal Syria that guarantees the rights of all communities without discrimination.

It is noted that the coastal cities and Homs witnessed a surge in popular protests yesterday, Tuesday, denouncing the killings targeting Alawites, while pro-transitional government groups attacked these protests, reportedly resulting in deaths and injuries among the demonstrators.
