The drivers of oil tankers in the town of Dhiban in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor continue with their strike and have threatened with escalation of their actions unless their demands for higher transportation wages and elimination of the role of intermediaries in contracting are met.

Several drivers said that the strike, which has lasted six days, comes out of their rejection of the low transportation wages in relation to their increased operating costs, which include fuel, parts, and maintenance.

They went on to add that the intermediation between the oil companies and the carriers causes the reduction of part of their wages and that direct contracts should be concluded with the relevant sides in order to obtain fair wages in the transportation mechanism.
