Deaths, injuries, arrests in foreign mercenaries' stronghold in Idlib

Security forces affiliated with the Ministry of Interior of the Syrian Transitional Government launched an attack targeting the so-called "French Camp" in the city of Harem, west of Idlib, which is considered a stronghold of the "Ghurabaa Battalion."

According to information published by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, violent clashes erupted on Tuesday night, during which light and medium weapons were used, resulting in deaths and injuries on both sides, in addition to the arrest of a number of foreign (French) mercenaries.

The Observatory reported that the attack was prompted by "security threats from within the camp" and aimed to "arrest Omer Omsen, the French battalion's leader of Senegalese origin, and end his influence within the camp."

On the other hand, the Observatory quoted from sources within the leadership of the foreign mercenaries that the goal of the campaign is to "dissolve the battalion and hand over its leaders and members to France."

In a related context, the Observatory reported that the Transitional Government in Syria's President, Ahmed al-Sharaa, pledged to France to "end the presence of French jihadists in Syria and hand them over to Paris." He also promised, during his visit to Moscow, to "hand over Russian and Chechen immigrants to Russia in stages, to avoid any potential uprising against the Transitional Government and its Forces."
