The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that the death toll in the Syrian coast had risen to more than 1,018 as of yesterday evening.

Among the dead were "745 civilians, confirming the fall of 125 members of the General Security, members of the Ministry of Defence and associated forces, and 148 gunmen from the remnants of the former regime".

Several cities in Syria, including Latakia, Tartous-Hama, Banias and Jableh, witnessed a serious military escalation, due to clashes between the forces of the Damascus Authority and gunmen.

The Damascus authority describes the operations as targeting "remnants of the former regime", while armed groups say their move is a rejection of the current authority and a defense of their areas.

This escalation is accompanied by exchange of accusations, with each accusing the other of committing "massacres" against civilians.
