Hasakah city, after authorities affiliated with the transitional government took over the management of fuel supplies and bakeries, the prices of many essential goods increased.

After the transitional government lifted subsidies on diesel fuel, the price of one liter rose to around 12,000 Syrian pounds, several times the previous price of subsidized diesel, which had been only around 800 Syrian pounds.

This diesel price increase affected all goods and activities that depend on diesel fuel.

The price of one ampere of electricity had previously been 15,000 Syrian pounds for eight hours per day. However, the transitional government set the price of one hour per ampere at $1.25.

Immediately after the decision was issued, a large number of electricity generator owners stopped operating their generators, leaving Hasakah city in almost complete darkness.

The number of hours of electricity supply also fell from at least eight hours to around three hours per day.

The price of a bundle of bread also increased from 4,500 Syrian pounds to 6,000 Syrian pounds.

These price increases were not accompanied by any government plan to improve individual incomes, resulting in widespread dissatisfaction among residents.

Citizen Ahmed Ibrahim called on the Governor of Hasakah and his deputy to provide “electricity and heating diesel,” criticizing the absence of an official response to citizens’ demands.

He concluded by saying, “All services in Hasakah city are suffering from severe deterioration.”

Meanwhile, citizen Mohammed Mohammed called for reductions in “fuel prices and the price of bread, after the markets witnessed significant price increases and uncontrolled disparities in prices.”

According to Mohammed, there is “chaos in bread pricing, as a bundle is sold in some places for 15,000 pounds, while in other places it reaches 20,000 pounds, whereas a bundle was previously sold for 3,000 Syrian pounds.”

Mohammed held the Ministry of Energy responsible for the deterioration in living conditions, saying, “The Energy Minister’s fluctuating decisions, which have caused prices to rise almost daily, are increasing the suffering.”

He continued, “Decisions that directly affect people’s lives require comprehensive and in-depth study before they are approved.
